The brain communicates through billions of nerve cells that produce tiny electrical signals. These signals form different brainwave frequencies, each playing an important role in normal brain function. A healthy brain continually moves between these different frequencies depending on the task being performed.
During qEEG brain mapping, a cap similar to a swim cap is placed on the head, using a light saline solution to read this activity. The process is non-invasive, and takes around 20 minutes. Nothing is put into the brain — the sensors simply listen to activity already taking place.
We ensure the person having their brain mapped is comfortable, relaxed and reassured throughout. There is never any rush. For children, we support parents in preparing them beforehand, and parents are welcome to remain with their child throughout the mapping.
Using the information from clinical assessment alongside qEEG findings, we look at patterns across different regions and brainwave frequencies to build a personalised treatment pathway.
qEEG does not diagnose autism, ADHD or any other condition, and it does not replace a recognised clinical assessment. It adds an additional layer of understanding about how your brain's networks are functioning — informing a personalised programme that may include Neurofeedback or Transcranial Photobiomodulation (tPBM).
Every brain is different. Two people with the same diagnosis can have very different patterns of brain activity — which is why we look beyond the label, using qEEG findings alongside clinical assessment to build a pathway around the individual.
